Ao Nang is Krabi province's main beach resort town, a 2-km strip of restaurants, tour operators, shops, and hotels backed by spectacular limestone karst formations. As a long-stay base it is more expensive than Krabi Town but offers immediate beach access and a large selection of Western-facing restaurants and services. It is the most convenient launch point for Railay Beach (accessible only by boat), the Four Islands, and day trips to Koh Phi Phi. The expat and nomad community is smaller than Phuket or Koh Samui but grows each high season.
